Introduction

HKBU welcomes applicants from all over the world, accepting major international / regional / national qualifications. The six Faculties/Schools -- Arts and Social Sciences, Business, Chinese Medicine, Communication, Creative Arts, and Science-- offer 22 undergraduate programmes with over 45 majors in various disciplines.

The University adopts a policy of broad-based admissions for most of its programmes. Under broad-based admissions, students can choose to study in their desired Faculty/School and enhance their overall understanding of the disciplines in the first year. After they have studied more about different subjects of the disciplines, they can then make the best choice of major in order to achieve their goals.

The following Faculties adopt broad-based admissions:

  • Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences
  • School of Business
  • School of Communication
  • Faculty of Science

Note: The university has not authorised any agents or agencies to manage admissions processes or to offer guaranteed or supplementary admission slots. All applications and fees must be submitted directly to Hong Kong Baptist University.

Transdisciplinary Second Majors/Second Majors

The University envisions the importance of transdisciplinary innovations in response to global challenges and offers a flexible curriculum structure that is much more agile and fits the present and yet-to-known future needs. Seven new transdisciplinary second majors (TSMs) and two new second majors (SMs) will be introduced in the 2025/26 academic year.  TSMs are geared for particular talent needs in Hong Kong and prepare students to pool knowledge from different disciplines to excel in multiple careers, whereas SMs prepare students to gain in-depth knowledge from another discipline to complement the first major. This approach equips students not only for their careers, but also the future development of their respective fields.

Transdisciplinary Second Majors
  • Cultural Industry Management
  • Creative Industry Management
  • Digital Entertainment
  • Interactive Media Publishing
  • Green Technology and Sustainability Management
  • Applied AI for Sustainable Society
  • Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management

Second Majors
  • AI and Data Science
  • Testing Sciences

Students of designated programmes can declare one TSM or SM in their second year of study*.  The study of the TSM / SM normally commences in Year 3.  Students pursuing a TSM/SM are required to complete a minimum of 134 units for graduation i.e. 6 more units than the regular graduation requirement.  Please click here for more details.

* TSMs or SMs are not available to students admitted to Transdisciplinary programmes, dual/double/combined degree programmes and other programmes which may not be able to make arrangements for their students to opt for a TSM or SM.

I had a dream of inventing something with my own hands and HKBU made this dream come true. I did a summer research with Department of Physics to create a potable water generator. I have also got the chance to participate in the 'BEST' entrepreneurship program and be the HKBU representative in Hong Kong Techathon. These experiences help me find an internship as a data scientist at one of the largest banks of my country.

Our teachers always encourage us to share our own ideas and thoughts. They guide us through the creative process and help us find ways to bring to life the visions in our heads. Studying visual arts so far from home is a great experience itself. Here I’m surrounded by a stimulating environment that inspires me to create new artworks. Artists need to have different experiences in order to tell a story through their artwork. This opportunity to live in Hong Kong for sure helps me achieve that.

I was given the opportunity to participate in one of the biggest Model United Nations Conferences in Madrid, Spain, with more than 2000 participants from over 110 countries, as a representative of HKBU. It was a valuable experience participating in debates and negotiations with fellow students from around the globe, especially as a “delegate” representing the interests of a particular region in a simulated setting. Furthermore, it was a perfect chance for me to make friends from different parts of the world.

Last summer, I worked as a student intern in my Professor's research laboratory, where I was able to apply theories and knowledge that I have learnt in classroom to the discovery and testing of new medicinal compounds. The real-life applications and research experiences allow me to develop critical and analytical thinking skills. I am proud to receive training for being a pharmaceutical professional through HKBU's unique East-meets-West approach, where traditional Chinese Medicine is combined with modern research and development techniques.

HKBU offers numerous opportunities for students to exhibit caring and concern to people in need. I had a chance to educate children at a local elementary school in Ubud during a service trip in Bali arranged by the Undergraduate Halls. I immersed myself into the local culture and customs, engaged in activities with children as a caring teacher, and took part in some renovation work in a local village as a volunteer. This experience helps me understand the meaning of life and the importance of mutual support and respect among people.

MSc in Entrepreneurship and Global Marketing Student

As a Filipino student at HKBU's School of Business, I learned that meaningful connections can transform your university experience. Despite the uncertainties brought by the COVID-19 pandemic, my part-time job as a campus café barista became an unexpected turning point. A simple conversation with a professor led to three life-changing opportunities: scholarships for my Master's degree, a research assistant position, and an internship at a global company. Throughout my four years, I actively participated in business competitions, internships, startup bootcamps, musical performances, and volunteering services. My advice to students: never underestimate the power of genuine conversations – they can open doors you never imagined possible.

Watch the full experience now.
