Academic departments will normally invite selected applicants for interview/ test between February and July. Shortlisted candidates will be notified of the interview details via email/ phone/ SMS/ Online Application System. If you cannot attend the interview, you should inform us in writing immediately. However, you are strongly recommended to attend the scheduled interview as alternative arrangements may not be feasible.

There is no definite cut-off score/ GPA/ grade for selecting applicants for interview/ test. Applicants’ academic performance in public examinations and post-secondary education, professional qualifications and non-academic achievements will be considered in a holistic approach and on individual merits.

For non-local applicants who are not residing in Hong Kong, phone/ online interview may be arranged if possible.

Admission offers are normally made from March to August. Successful applicants will receive notification via email/ phone/ Online Application System.

Upon successful admission, the University will assist non-local applicants in applying for a visa/ entry permit for study. The University will act as the sponsor of the visa/ entry permit application and advise applicants on the application procedures.

Admission offers are made on a rolling basis. Successful early batch/ main round applicants will be offered places at an earlier stage while less competitive applicants will be considered provided that there is still space available in a particular programme. To facilitate the admission process, submission of any updated supporting documents (e.g. latest academic reports, etc.) should be done via the Online Application System as early as possible and no later than 31 August.  The status of application will be updated on applicants' online account regularly. Requests for a refund of the Admission Confirmation Fee will be considered ONLY when an applicant fails to meet the condition(s) of the admission offer and the offer is consequently revoked by the University. Applicant needs to submit necessary supporting documents (such as result slips, transcripts) showing that the condition(s) of the offer is not met. Applicants who are awarded an entrance scholarship and receive an admission offer will NOT receive a refund regardless whether s/he meets the scholarship condition(s).

For details, please refer to Fees.

Scholarship opportunities are available to outstanding students. The University will identify qualified students for the award of scholarships upon successful admission. No separate application is required and selected candidates will be notified of the admission and scholarship offers at the same time. Scholarship awards are not guaranteed due to keen competition. Applicants should be prepared to fund their own cost of study.

Non-local applicants have to make their own financial arrangement for supporting their study and living costs in Hong Kong.

The Office of Student Affairs is in charge of student accommodation matters.  For details, please visit the website of the Office of Student Affairs.

Applicants should meet the General Entrance Requirements, as well as the Programme Minimum Entrance Requirements, if any, for admission. Please browse through the Programmes on Offer under our JUPAS (HKDSE) website for programme description and entrance requirements.

Yes. The following public examination results are recognized by the University as equivalent to Level 3 in HKDSE English Language:

(a) The student has learned Chinese Language for less than six years while receiving primary and secondary education. This caters specifically to students who have a late start in the learning of Chinese Language (e.g. due to their settlement in Hong Kong well past the entry level) or who have been educated in Hong Kong sporadically; or

(b) The student has learned Chinese Language for six years or more in schools, but has been taught an adapted and simpler Chinese Language curriculum not normally applicable to the majority of  students in our local schools.

While waivers may be granted at the discretion of individual programmes, such consideration is only made under special circumstances, on a case-by-case basis. Students are therefore strongly advised to obtain the requisite Chinese qualifications.

For the 2025 entry, HKBU accepts combined results and will count the best results for meeting our entrance requirements and for the calculation of admissions scores.

Each study programme would have its own specified score formulae for calculating applicants' Academic Scores. Please visit our website for more details on HKDSE Assessment Criteria.

Please note that your HKDSE grades alone do not determine whether you will be admitted to a study programme. During the selection process, HKBU will consider applicants’ overall performance such as School Reference Reports and "Other Experiences and Achievements in Competitions/Activities (OEA)", etc.

Extended Part of Mathematics (Module 1 or Module 2) is recognised for fulfilling elective subject requirements. Please refer to the programme entrance requirements of individual programmes for details.

The assessment weighting for HKDSE subjects varies with programmes. Please note that HKDSE grades alone do not determine whether you will be admitted to a study programme. During the selection process, HKBU will consider applicants' overall performance such as School Reference Reports and "Other Experiences and Achievements in Competitions/Activities (OEA)", etc.

Please visit our website for more details on HKDSE Assessment Criteria.

Individual programmes may consider HKDSE Category C subjects (Other Languages) for fulfillment of elective subject requirement. Please refer to 'Find a Programme' for details.

You SHOULD apply through JUPAS (HKDSE) if you belong to one of the following categories:

a) All applicants (school and non-school applicants) who apply for admission to the full-time government-funded bachelor's degree programmes offered by the 8 JUPAS participating-institutions, to the full-time non-government-funded bachelor's degree programmes offered by HKMU and to Study Subsidy Scheme for Designated Professions / Sectors (SSSDP) programmes on the strength of HKDSE will be considered only on the basis of their HKDSE.

b) All school applicants as in (a) above MUST apply via their respective schools.

c) School applicants who may be sitting for the HKDSE in some subjects as private candidates MUST apply via JUPAS AND via their respective schools as school applicants.

d) Applicants with HKDSE results and other qualifications (such as GCE) should normally apply via JUPAS (assessment on applications via JUPAS will be based primarily on HKDSE).  However, if their “other qualifications” alone would also make them eligible for application, they may apply via JUPAS or directly to institutions, but not both in the same academic year.

If you are not eligible to apply through JUPAS, Direct (Non-JUPAS) application could be considered. In accordance with the HKSAR Government policy, all non-local applicants, regardless of whether they possess HKDSE Examination results, MUST apply for admission via the non-JUPAS route, and NOT via JUPAS as from the 2020 JUPAS cycle.

Please browse through Direct (Non-JUPAS) Applicants for more details.

If you would like to apply for admission on the strength of your HKDSE results, you must apply through JUPAS. Please visit the JUPAS Office website for details.

No, you cannot apply through JUPAS as well as through Direct (Non-JUPAS) routes at the same time.

If you are applying for admission on the basis of qualifications other than HKDSE results, other qualifications include GCSE/ GCE, International Baccalaureate Programme (IB), overseas examination results, Higher Diploma, Associate Degree, Degree, you are advised to apply to HKBU directly. Please visit our Direct (Non-JUPAS) Applicants website for details.

Please note that if you make applications to both JUPAS and HKBU (through Direct (Non-JUPAS) routes), you will be asked to withdraw either application.

HKBU would assess each application on equal grounds and admission is based on individual's merits. As we have all the necessary information on applicants transferred from the JUPAS Office, there is no need for applicants to submit any additional information for our consideration.

Not all programmes conduct interviews/tests. Interview/Test arrangement may vary with programmes and may change every year. For more details on interview arrangement, please click Interview/Test.

In addition to academic performance in public examinations, some programmes assess the applicant's performance at interviews and achievements/interests in non-academic areas. Applicants are required to have good performance at interviews, for admission to these programmes with interview, the applicant's motivation, aptitude for the programme, creativity, maturity, and non-academic achievements are assessed. Applicants not being invited for interview may still have chance for admission.

Selection criteria for interviews vary with programmes. Banding of programme choices alone does not determine whether you are invited for interview. Other factors affecting your chance of being shortlisted include your public examination results, information contained in your application, overall grades achieved by other applicants, and the number of applicants applied to the programme, etc. However, when the number of applicants far exceeds the interview quota, we may only invite those applicants who have placed the particular programme in higher band choice (majority from Band A applicants and a few from Band B applicants) for interview.

Admissions interviews/tests will be held before and/or after the announcement of HKDSE results. For more details on interview arrangement, please click Interview/Test.

The formats of interview/test vary with programmes. Some programmes will conduct group/individual interview, audition, written test, practical test and/or aptitude test. For more details on interview arrangement, please click Interview/Test.

You will be notified via SMS and email with interview details, e.g. date, time, venue, etc. Please ensure that your mobile number, email and postal addresses provided to the JUPAS Office are updated and correct.

Before attending the interviews or tests, please read the interview invitation email carefully. Remember to bring along the HKID card and stationeries. Please also note other details listed in the invitation email notification.

If you are unable to attend an interview or test, please contact us via email or by phone (3411 2200) in advance so that alternative arrangements may be made for you, if feasible.

Applicants who are awarded an entrance scholarship and receive an admission offer will NOT receive a refund regardless whether s/he meets the scholarship condition(s).

Details of financial assistance schemes available for full-time local students on government-funded programmes are available on the website of the Office of Student Affairs. As financial aid is only available for application by current students in the first semester, successful applicants should arrange the settlement of the admission confirmation fee by themselves.

The Office of Student Affairs is in charge of student accommodation matters. For details, please visit the website of the Office of Student Affairs.

Each applicant can submit only ONE application with a maximum of two programme choices in the same admission year. Owing to keen competition, if applicants are not admitted to their first choice of programme, they will be considered for their second choice if places are still available.
