This is a 6-year full-time double degree programme, with 15-month internship training and an Honours Project. The curriculum of the programme encompasses extensive courses in Chinese medicine, courses in biomedical and clinical Western medicine, as well as courses in University Language and General Education courses and free electives, in an approximate ratio of 6:2:2.Instructors in this programme use a variety of teaching tools and activities, including multimedia teaching aids, case study, group discussions, laboratory practice, and hospital visits to achieve outcome-based teaching and learning. To uphold the spirit of “Whole Person Development” advocated by the University, 31 credits of University Language and General Education courses are included in the curriculum.

Clinical practice plays an important role in learning Chinese medicine. From Year 1 onward, students are required to undertake clinical practicum training at Chinese medicine clinics run by HKBU and the Chinese Medicine Hospital of Hong Kong. In Years 5 and 6, students are also required to complete an internship of approximately 12 months at a Chinese medicine teaching hospital in Mainland China, followed by a 3-month specialized clinical internship at a Chinese medicine teaching hospital in Mainland China or Chinese medicine clinics run by HKBU.
Our graduates become Chinese medicine practitioners, who are in high demand. The licensing system for Chinese medicine practitioners has been in place in Hong Kong since 2003, and our graduates are well prepared to meet its stringent requirements and pass the licensing examinations. In addition to clinical practice, graduates may pursue postgraduate research studies in local or overseas institutions or start their careers in education and administration in the fields of Chinese medicine or public health.
