Bioresources, which refer to any resource of biological origin including all living organisms and its derivatives that have actual or potential use or value for humanity, are being depleted at an alarming rate due to overexploitation and environmental problems such as the contamination of land and water, and the effects of climate change, all which influence food security and food safety. Thus, it is important to cultivate an understanding of sustainable resource management via sustainable agriculture practices and bioresource conservation.

The programme is the first and unique agriculture related professional programme in Hong Kong, which focuses on the integration of agriculture with bioresource management with the aim of cultivating an understanding of the social, ecological and environmental significance of agricultural practices and bioresource conservation from the perspective of sustainability.

To further equip students with real world experience, each student admitted into this programme will be offered an internship opportunity in an organization or a company, such as:

  • Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD)
  • Aqua Green Limited
  • Clover Seed Co. Ltd.
  • Grow Something
  • Hong Kong Organic Resource Centre (HKORC)
  • Lee Kum Kee
  • Oriental Landscapes Ltd.
  • Pegasus Greenland Ltd.
  • Rooftop Republic Co. Ltd.

Organic certification and inspector training is offered to enable graduates to carry out organic inspections.

Students can join the Student Exchange Programme and study outside of Hong Kong for one semester or one academic year with numerous exchange partners located throughout the world. Moreover, the Department’s overseas summer exchange programmes serve as an invaluable platform for students to learn about international bioresource management practices and for acquiring relevant hands-on research and working experience.

Students will be provided with hands-on experience in agricultural technology and bioresource conservation required for an array of bioresource, agriculture, and environmental related professions, including farm operation, agribusiness, consultancy, green groups, government departments, etc.
