Programme Description
The programme offers students a comprehensive education in the dynamic and evolving sports industry in Hong Kong.
The Sports Industry Management progrmame aims to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and experiences necessary to succeed in the dynamic sports industry, preparing them for prosperous careers and leadership roles within this field.
Throughout the programme, students will: a) develop a good understanding of the sports industry system, including key stakeholders, emerging trends, and prevalent challenges, b) acquire practical skills in various sports business disciplines, c) enhance critical thinking and problem-solving abilities through the analysis of real-world case studies and projects within the sports industry, d) gain valuable hands-on experience through internships and fieldwork with esteemed sports organisations in Hong Kong.
The Sports Industry Management as a transdisciplinary programme, developed collaboratively by the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, the School of Business, and the School of Communication, is the only programme recognised by the UGC that offers a comprehensive education in the sport industry and business.
Students will cultivate practical skills in various disciplines of sports business while enhancing their critical thinking and problem-solving abilities through the analysis of real-world case studies and projects within the sports industry. Additionally, they will have the chance to gain valuable hands-on experience through internships and service learning opportunities with esteemed sports organisations in Hong Kong, enabling them to apply their knowledge in real-world scenarios.
The Sports Industry Management programme aligns effectively with the recent efforts led by the Culture, Sports, and Tourism Bureau to boost community and elite sports in Hong Kong, contributing to city’s potential as a major hub for international sports events. The recent opening of the Kai Tak Stadium in late 2024 and the proposed development of about 30 new sports facilities as outlined in the government's "10-Year Development Blueprint for Sports and Recreation Facilities" underscores the necessity for a skilled workforce in the sports sector in Hong Kong. The programme can effectively equip students to meet the growing demands of the sports business industry and provide sustainable employment opportunities for those pursuing careers in this dynamic field in Hong Kong.
