Programme Description

The programme encompasses pharmaceutical science of Chinese Materia Medica (CMM), basic theories of Chinese medicine, basic science, western pharmacy and practicum training. During the four-year study, students are required to complete a 15-week practicum and an Honours Project. Courses are taught in English, Putonghua and Cantonese. Throughout the programme, research concepts and tools are introduced, and the concept of “Whole Person Education” is also emphasized in the student-oriented General Education programme.


Student Learning Experiences
 

Starting from year one of the study, students will attend the practicum sessions in which they have plenty opportunities to broaden their knowledge. During the summer break after the first year of study, students are required to attend a 2-week practicum in the Medicinal Botany. During the summer breaks after the third and fourth years of study, they will attend the practicum in either a pharmaceutical plant or an herbarium in Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Shaoguan or Guangzhou.


Career Opportunities
Career opportunities of the BPharm graduates include CMM quality control in the government sectors and business management in the commercial sector of Chinese medicines. Graduates can also pursue research postgraduate study in either local or overseas institutions for the development of new drugs.

Associate Degree (AD)/ Higher Diploma (HD) Final Year Students/ Holders

AD/ HD holders or final year students may apply for Year 1 entry.

 

Associate Degree (AD)/ Higher Diploma (HD) Non-final Year Students

Non-final year students studying AD/ HD programmes at a higher education institution recognised by the University are eligible to apply for Year 1 entry only. These applicants are required to fulfill the Entrance Requirements for HKDSE or equivalent qualifications.

 

Transfer Students

Transfer students who are currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree or higher degree programmes at a local or non-local university may apply. 


Please note that according to the guidelines of the University Grants Committee (UGC) on inter-institutional transfer of students, repeating of UGC-funded undergraduate study across institutions, irrespective of whether there is a change of programme or discipline, is generally discouraged unless under very exceptional circumstances.
