Programme Description
This transdisciplinary programme is designed for tech savvy individuals who wish to pursue a career in applying technologies in the arts and culture sector and creative industries.
The arts and culture sector and creative industries have been expanding rapidly in Hong Kong and the Mainland. The integration of various technologies into art creation have led to many possibilities unimagined before. Specialists are needed to push for the future forms of arts and culture and creative industries.
HKBU is recognised for its strengths in film, acting, music, visual arts, culture and humanities, as well as strong connections with the arts and culture sector and creative industries. Creative Media and Practice is indeed one of the three interdisciplinary research clusters in HKBU’s 10-year Strategic Plan.
Graduates of this programme are capable of creating and delivering contents in the arts and culture sector and creative industries, achieving technology-augmented creativity and viewer experience, and using technologies such as extended realities in film, theatre, game development and designing museum experience and heritage conservation.
The programme is open to students from all academic backgrounds.
Unique Features
Students will work closely in teams alongside with professors and professionals who are interested in different aspects of arts and culture and creative industries. They will study in the existing facilities in HKBU such as the Augmented Reality Lab and Creative Robotics Lab, as well as the state-of-the-art facilities of the Jockey Club Campus of Creativity to be opened in 2023/24. Students will have many opportunities to complete multiple creative projects
Transdisciplinary Second Majors / Second Majors
The University envisions the importance of transdisciplinary innovations in response to the global challenges and offers a flexible curriculum structure that is much more agile and fits the present and yet-to-known future needs. Students will have the opportunity to opt for a transdisciplinary second major (TSM) / second major (SM) on top of their major. TSMs are geared for particular talent needs in Hong Kong and prepare students to pool knowledge from different disciplines to excel in multiple career, whereas SMs prepare students to gain in-depth knowledge from another discipline to complement the first major. This approach equips students not only for their careers, but also the future development of their respective fields. Nine TSMs / SMs will be launched in the 2025/26 academic year (subject to the approval of the University Senate).
Student Learning Experiences
The key learning activities, particularly in the last two years, are collaboration on art-tech creation, arts and culture projects and experiential learning. Students will work with renowned professors and experts from around the world and the Mainland. They will also undergo multiple experiential learning activities in Hong Kong, the Mainland particularly the Greater Bay Area, and overseas.
Career Opportunities
Graduates may pursue their own creation or take up positions in film, music, games and performing art groups. Museums may also use their expertise in immersive art to create brand new viewer experience by complementing the physical visit with a virtual visit. Museums, art traders and art groups will also hire graduates who are experts in using technologies for digitisation and authentication of arts.
As new arts and culture venues are opening, there will be a strong demand for art tech specialists.
Remark

Extended Part of Mathematics (Module 1 or Module 2) can be recognised for fulfilment of the second elective requirement.
