Programme Description
This transdisciplinary programme is designed for students who are business-minded and wish to pursue a career in the entertainment business and/or arts, cultural and creative industries.
Entertainment business covers a very broad coverage: film, music, media, gaming, cultural events and performances. It has been rapidly developing in Hong Kong, the Mainland and across the globe in recent years. Technologies and new forms of monetization are also changing the viewer experience drastically. Global entertainment businesses need specialists who can perform a wide range of duties including content development, licensing, finance, marketing, administration, circulation, audience development, public education and more importantly, who can support and champion the fast-evolving new forms of audience engagement.
HKBU is recognised for its strengths in film, acting, music, visual arts, culture and humanities, as well as strong connections with the industries. It is well-prepared to develop into a research and education hub for creative industries in the next few years. Creative Media and Practice is indeed one of the three interdisciplinary research clusters in HKBU's 10-year Strategic Plan.
The programme is open to students from all academic backgrounds.
Unique Programme Features
The programme is solution-based as students will complete multiple collaborative real-life projects in the industries.
Firstly, students will work closely in teams alongside with professors and professionals who are interested in different aspects of the entertainment business and/or arts, cultural and creative industries. Secondly, students will make full use of the existing facilities in HKBU such as the Augmented Reality Lab and Creative Robotics Lab, as well as the state-of-the-art facilities of the Jockey Club Campus of Creativity to be opened in 2023/24. Thirdly, students will be given options to explore the range of theory and research across the disciplines of arts and business while mandating the completion of core units in creativity, cultural understanding, ethics, and communication.
Student Learning Experiences
Students will undergo an array of experiential learning activities such as transdisciplinary studio collaboration, industry seminars and roundtable discussions. They will work on company-based projects to provide solutions to real-life problems in the creative and cultural industries under the supervision of renowned professors and experts in and outside Hong Kong. They will attend local and overseas field trips and complete internships in the Mainland particularly the Greater Bay Area and overseas.
Upon graduation, students will have a strong portfolio documenting their achievements. Skills such as teamwork and communication will also be cultivated and assessed.
Career Opportunities
Graduates of the programme will develop transdisciplinary skills, creativity, intercultural awareness and entrepreneurial mindset that enable them to facilitate creative content creation and delivery and/or take up business positions in administration, marketing, distribution, project and event management for entertainment, rts, culture and creative industries. Graduates will be effective in running business operations, engaging the public audiences, enhancing customer services and front-stage experiences. Their employers include entertainment businesses, creative industries, cultural venues, museums, exhibition spaces, performing venues, art groups, NGOs and foundations, art traders, event organisers and the Government.

We adopt a holistic approach in selecting applicants on individual merits. Applicants are required to meet the University entrance requirements, English Language requirements and Programme entrance requirements (if any).
Associate Degree (AD)/ Higher Diploma (HD) Final Year Students/ Holders
AD/ HD holders or final year students may apply for Year 1 entry.
Associate Degree (AD)/ Higher Diploma (HD) Non-final Year Students
Non-final year students studying AD/ HD programmes at a higher education institution recognised by the University are eligible to apply for Year 1 entry only. These applicants are required to fulfill the Entrance Requirements for HKDSE or equivalent qualifications.
Transfer Students
Transfer students who are currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree or higher degree programmes at a local or non-local university may apply.
Please note that according to the guidelines of the University Grants Committee (UGC) on inter-institutional transfer of students, repeating of UGC-funded undergraduate study across institutions, irrespective of whether there is a change of programme or discipline, is generally discouraged unless under very exceptional circumstances.
