Programme Description
To be physically active is an integral and important part of healthy living. With the increasing awareness and need for quality and active lifestyles, the number of public and private sport facilities, sport clubs, fitness clubs and residential clubhouses have increased substantially over the years. There is a high demand for professional management of sports and recreation programmes and facilities as well as delivery of quality physical education in school and exercise training in the community environments. With the continuous demand for trained graduates in the field of physical education, sport and recreation management, the Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Physical Education and Recreation Management (PERM) Programme was established in 1992. The overall aim of the PERM Programme is to provide students with sufficient depth and breadth of knowledge, skills and practical experience (internship) in the discipline of physical education, exercise science and recreation management. Furthermore, under the University's ethos of "whole person education", students will also receive a strong liberal arts education that will prepare them for a variety of careers.
Unique Features
Starting in the 2025/26 academic year, a new major in sports science will be introduced in our existing PERM programme. This interdisciplinary path seamlessly blends traditional sports science courses with cutting-edge disciplines such as artificial intelligence, molecular biology, and Chinese medicine. This innovative curriculum not only equips students with foundational knowledge but also prepares them to tackle the complex challenges in the field of sports science. By fostering a holistic understanding of human performance and well-being, our graduates will emerge as leaders in the field, ready to make significant contributions both locally and internationally.
Specifically, the objectives of the PERM Programme are to enable students to:
Student Learning Experiences
Students are required to complete 250 hours of internship placement separately in local and overseas. And, they are encouraged to apply exchange opportunities from one term to one academic year. Services learning are provided in various courses.

Associate Degree (AD)/ Higher Diploma (HD) Final Year Students/ Holders
AD/ HD holders or final year students may apply for Year 1 entry.
Associate Degree (AD)/ Higher Diploma (HD) Non-final Year Students
Non-final year students studying AD/ HD programmes at a higher education institution recognised by the University are eligible to apply for Year 1 entry only. These applicants are required to fulfill the Entrance Requirements for HKDSE or equivalent qualifications.
Transfer Students
Transfer students who are currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree or higher degree programmes at a local or non-local university may apply.
Please note that according to the guidelines of the University Grants Committee (UGC) on inter-institutional transfer of students, repeating of UGC-funded undergraduate study across institutions, irrespective of whether there is a change of programme or discipline, is generally discouraged unless under very exceptional circumstances.

Applicants are required to submit their award certificates/ testimonials of outstanding achievements in international sports competitions or sports-related activities in which they are/were Hong Kong representatives. A recommendation/ reference letter from the respective National Team/ National Sport Association/ Hong Kong Sports Institute on the applicant's participation or elite athlete status will be useful.
