Programme Description

This transdisciplinary programme is designed for students who are business-minded and wish to pursue a career in the  entertainment business. It will educate graduates who are well-versed both in creative industries and business. 

Entertainment business has a very broad coverage: film, music, media, gaming, cultural events and performances. As it has seen rapid development in Hong Kong and the Mainland in recent years, there is a strong need for specialists who can perform a wide range of duties including finance, marketing, administration, audience development, education and beyond. More importantly, as technologies are changing the viewer experience drastically, the business constantly looks for specialists who can push for the future forms of entertainment. 

HKBU is recognised for its strengths in film, acting, music, visual arts, culture and humanities, as well as strong connections with the industries. It is well-prepared to develop into a research and education hub for creative industries in the next few years. Creative Media and Practice is indeed one of the three interdisciplinary research clusters in HKBU’s 10-year Strategic Plan.

The programme is open to students from all academic backgrounds.


Unique Features

Firstly, students will work closely in teams alongside with professors and professionals who are interested in different aspects of the entertainment business. Secondly, students will make full use of the existing facilities in HKBU such as the Augmented Reality Lab and Creative Robotics Lab, as well as the state-of-the-art facilities of the Jockey Club Campus of Creativity to be opened in 2023/24. Thirdly, the programme is solution-based as students will complete multiple collaborative real-life projects in the industries.


Student Learning Experiences

The key learning activities, particularly in the last two years, are collaboration on projects from the industries, experiential learning and constant problem-solving. Students will work with renowned professors and experts from around the world and the Mainland. They will also undergo multiple learning experiences in Hong Kong, the Mainland particularly the Greater Bay Area, as well as  overseas.


Career Opportunities

Graduates can competently take up positions in administration, marketing and project and event management for arts and culture and creative industries. They will be effective in running business operations, engaging the public and improving customer service and front-stage experience. Their employers include creative industries, cultural venues, museums, exhibition spaces, performing venues, art groups, NGOs and foundations, event organisers and the Government.
