This programme is a unique, interdisciplinary "state-of-the-art" Bachelor of Fine Arts programme in acting, which combines acting training and performance studies, technology understanding and contemporary cultural reflection in its curriculum. It aims to be the most competitive undergraduate programme in acting performance, with cross-cultural and global enrichments that meet the needs of stage acting, acting with media technology and acting for screen in film industries for both local and non-local students. The curriculum includes internship at professional performance bodies and overseas training and learning. Students may conduct their graduation projects in any languages. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend interview with casting experts and audition.

Unique Features

Graduates are all rounded acting professionals. They shall be well equipped in acting performance and highly competent with storytelling formats, be it linear and nonlinear, long form and flashy clips, and therefore will be able to perform on various media from traditional stage performance to acting with technology.

Student Learning Experiences

Film Festival Tours

The Academy of Film organises Film Festival Tours, overseas film exchange and workshops to enhance students' competitive edge and their international/ global exposure such as Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival (Barcelona, Spain), Busan International Film Festival (Korea), Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival (Toronto), Far East Film Festival (Udine, Italy), Toyko International Film Festival (Japan), etc.

Internship and Workshops

Students are required to attend internship, performing practicum via casting and/or field work placement at overseas or local professional performing companies, media or film projects. There will also be workshops conducted by celebrated international and local drama and performing institutions.

Career Opportunities

The programme has very close network with theater, film and media professionals, festival juries, casting experts, film directors and performing practitioners who will be the advisory committee members of the Programme to attend audition, admission interview and graduation performance. They are potential employers of the graduates. The required internship in curriculum also provides golden career opportunities to our students.

We adopt a holistic approach in selecting applicants on individual merits. Applicants are required to meet the University entrance requirements, English Language requirements and Programme entrance requirements (if any).

 

Associate Degree/ Higher Diploma Final Year Students/ Holders

AD/ HD holders or final year students may apply for Year 1 or Year 3 entry.

 

Associate Degree/ Higher Diploma Non-final Year Students

Non-final year students studying AD/ HD programmes at a higher education institution recognised by the University are eligible to apply for Year 1 entry only. These applicants are required to fulfill the Entrance Requirements for HKDSE or equivalent qualifications.

 

Transfer Students

Transfer students are current students enrolled in a full-time or sandwich government-funded or self-financed degree programme at a recognised institution.

Applicants who have completed at least one year of study of a degree programme may apply for Year 1 entry. They should fulfil the University and the Programme Entrance Requirements.

Inter-institutional transfer of students enrolled in a local government-funded programme is considered on a case-by-case basis.

 

Degree Holders

Holders of Bachelor’s/ Master’s/ Doctoral Degree or students studying in the final year of a degree programme may apply for Year 1 or Year 3 entry.

Note:

  1. Applicants who attained Level 4 at HKDSE English Language subject may also be considered if they have showed related talents in their portfolio and during the admission interview. They may be required to take make-up English classes after they are admitted to the University.
  2. The Programme will consider Extended Part of Mathematics (Module 1 or 2) as unspecified elective subject in meeting the entrance requirements.

Applicants are required to attain an overall band 7.0 or above in IELTS Academic Test or equivalent.

Applicants who attained an overall band 6.5 in IETLS or with equivalent qualification may also be considered if they have shown outstanding talents in their portfolio and during the admission interview and audition. They may be required to take make-up English classes after they are admitted to the University.
