The Faculty of Arts will implement a hybrid admissions model starting from 2020 entry. Students may apply for admission to the Broad-based Programme or to a specific Major Programme. Founded as the first and unique undergraduate programme in Hong Kong to offering a broad liberal arts education, the Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Humanities Programme re-dedicated itself to training students to think critically and creatively, to write logically and speak confidently, to sympathise with humanity, and to appreciate life.
Our teaching staff profile includes renowned scholars and emerging young ones. Our programme continues to be distinguished by the three pillars of interdisciplinarity, bilingual teaching and learning, and cross-culturalism. Based on these unique strengths, our programme is marked by three Cs:
Student Learning Experiences
The Humanities Programme provides students with opportunities to study abroad in order to expand their educational and cultural horizons. Previously, our Summer Study Tour visited Germany, Taiwan and China. Every year, many students spend one semester or a year in overseas universities, and they invariably come back with unforgettable experiences as well as a newly-gained sense of confidence. They may go to a wide variety of places for exchange, such as Australia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Japan, Korea, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Taiwan and the USA.
Graduates take up careers in the fields of education, business, management, public relations, media, publishing, creative industries and the civil service.
To award outstanding HKDSE students admitted to the Faculty of Arts, the Faculty offers a new scholarship starting from the 2020 intake:
|Sum of HKDSE Score
(4 Core plus 2 electives)
|Amount of Scholarship|
|30 or above||$42,100 (one-off, 100% of the first-year tuition)|
|29||$21,050 (one-off, 50% of the first-year tuition)|
The Priority to Select Major Programme of Study (HKDSE students who obtain score of 25 or above have the priority to choose their preferred Major programme) will be cancelled with effect from the 2020 intake, in keeping with the introduction of the Hybrid Admission Scheme.
Please refer to the website for more details.
Students may take an integrated programme by extending their undergraduate study by one year, leading to the award of a bachelor's degree plus a Diploma in Education.
The Programme will consider Extended Part of Mathematics (Module 1 or 2) as unspecified elective subject in meeting the entrance requirements and as a whole subject in score calculation.
The Programme will NOT consider any Applied Learning subjects as an unspecified elective subject.
The Programme will consider Other Language subjects at Grade E or above as the second elective subject.
In general, the scores for the Other Language subjects (Category C) are converted as follows:
A=5**, B=5*, C=5, D=4, E=3
|HKDSE Academic Score (plus interview score, if any)||Derived from the score formula of individual programme
(The programme will consider 4 core subjects plus 2 best electives in Academic Score calculation.)

As programmes select students not only on the basis of the HKDSE results, the actual results of the students admitted to each programme may vary from year to year (depending on the overall results achieved by applicants in a particular year, the number of applicants applying to the programme, changes in selection criteria, etc.). Please be reminded that information listed above is for reference ONLY and is subject to change, and should NOT be used to predict the chance of admission to any programme.
