Programme Description

The Bachelor of Music (Hons) in Creative Industries Programme will offer professional training in scoring and popular music performance for film, television, video games, and other visual media. The Programme will provide a new articulation path for students with two options in Scoring for Screen and Popular Music Performance and Song-writing. Students will study and develop skills in scoring for film and television, video games and visual media, popular music performance, song-writing, and music technologies for media production.
 

Unique Features

This programme offers comprehensive training to aspiring composers, vocalists, and instrumentalists for careers in the creative and entertainment industries. Students in the Popular Music Performance and Song-writing Concentration will develop capabilities that will enable them to enter the music industry as performer-songwriters, lyricists, instrumental and/or vocal performers, arrangers, and music producers. Students in the Scoring for Screen Concentration will develop musical skills and knowledge to function as composers, orchestrators, music supervisors, music editors, conductors, and music producers in the film, television, recording, and video game industry.

Within the framework of a liberal arts university, apart from the professional training they receive through their major, students will gain insights into the larger issues of Preview Programme science, society, human community, global cultures – knowledge that is essential for the education of professional artist-musician in music and media.

 

Career Opportunities 

Graduates of this programme will be prepared for a wide range of career opportunities in the creative and entertainment industries, functioning as film and video games composers, songwriters, contemporary music performers, and music producers.

^ Subject to the University's approval, this new programme will be launched in 2019 entry. 

# As the 2019/20 Academic Year is the start of the 2019-2022 triennium for which UGC-funded programmes are still subject to the Government's and the Legislative Council's approval, the number of student intake places shown in this web page is indicative only and subject to change or confirmation at a later date.

For 2019 entry, the Programme (JS2050) will NOT consider Extended Part of Mathematics (Module 1 or 2) as unspecified elective subject in meeting the entrance requirements. However, it will consider M1/M2 subject as a whole subject in score calculation.

The Programme will not consider any Applied Learning Subjects as an unspecified elective subject.

The Programme will consider grade E or above in Other Language subjects as unspecified elective subject.

In general, the scores for the Other Language Subjects (Category C) are converted as follows:

A=5**, B=5*, C=5, D=4, E=3

  1. Upon score calculation and compilation of interview results (if any), eligible applicants will be given a rank in the Merit Order List to the JUPAS Office. The Merit Order List will be generated according to the priority given to the list of Tie-breakers. During the admissions process, the following are the most commonly used tie-breakers by the programmes offered by the University.

If a programme ranks the tie-breakers as: '1' to 'HKDSE Academic Score', '2' to 'Band', '3' to 'HKDSE Standard + 1 best X Subject Score', applicants with highest HKDSE Academic Score will be ranked first. If there are two applicants having the same HKDSE Academic Score, the one who places the programme in a higher band choice will be ranked higher. If the two applicants are the same on the first 2 tie-breakers, their HKDSE Standard + 1 best X Subject Score will be compared, the one with higher HKDSE Standard + 1 best X Subject Score will be given a higher rank, and so on.

As programmes select students not only on the basis of the HKDSE results, the actual results of the students admitted to each programme may vary from year to year (depending on the overall results achieved by applicants in a particular year, the number of applicants applying to the programme, changes in selection criteria, etc.).
